Welcome to this community spotlight section once again, this month I have had the privilege to interview SDKFZ _forgeworld

This is someone I have found through the wonders of social media but pre Instagram, back when Facebook and the net was starting to take off, there was a great site first off all Portent and then Warseer, but recently I came back across SDKFZ _forgeworld

And here his amazing page on Instagram - SDKFZ forgeworld

I have asked them to be interviewed to find out their hobby styles and life, and see if others can gain from their experiences.

First off thank you Karl

Lets begin with some basic questions so people can get to know you,

How did you get into the hobby of tabletop wargaming?

I was brought into the hobby by a friend who had bought the RT book in the States back in 1988.

What type of hobbyist are you? A painter/collector/gamer or a mix?

I am a modeler first then painter and collector. Sad to say, I don't play anymore.

What game systems do you play? Are you simply a one game person or do you play many different games?

At the moment its just 30/40K.

What was the thing that caught your eye the most them you were first starting out?

I liked the sci-fi and the minis.

What advice would you give someone just getting into the hobby/or your younger self, now you have been involved in this for a while?

Advice.....try and try again. You dont became master doing things one time. Keep at it !

Have you ever had an extended period out of the hobby?

My downs usually dont last more then a months, then i bounce back. The net helps me a lot and all the nice people of the community.

What’s the best part of the hobby for you?

The best part for me is sharing what you make an see what others do and draw inspiration from that.

What is the worst part of the hobby for you?

The worst part is the mini backlog

What keeps you in the hobby?

What keep me in is that i like modelling and interacting with people.

How do you deal with burn out/lack of hobby mojo?

As i said above, go online. Talk to People get new idea and inputs.

Has anyone inspired your hobby style/life?

Utopiastudios is a long time friend and inspiration for me.

What projects are you working on at the moment?

Currently painting a IG Falchion and a aftermarket Taurox.

If your budget was unlimited but you could only buy one army what would it be?

Imperial Guard all the way, love the tanks !

Non standard questions

Your work was one of the reasons I collected a tank army after seeing all the conversions and mock ups on Warseer/portent all those years ago, how do you get inspiration for them?

Glad i could make you do your own tank Army . I take a lot of inspiration from real world tanks .Both modern and old.

Do you take inspiration from real life military vehicles?

I like doing the support vehicles that dont win you any games.

Have you ever thought about converted tanks for another faction such as space marines?

I do make tanks for Orks. Thats as far as ive gotten.

Where do you normally get your hobby supplies from?

My supply's are from the net and from regular model shops.

Have you ever taken a complete army photo?

I did take some Army pics some years ago. There has been a lot added but i dont have the space to take new ones.

Do you game in a club or store?

As said earlier, i dont play anymore
